Wow! Wednesday

Today was Mufti Day! We looked super spunky in our casual clothes. Thank you to everyone who made gold coin donations.

This morning we listened to the story 'Argh! Spider' again. Miss McKendry is helping us to learn how to retell a story, in our own words. To retell a story we need to talk about the story in order and include the important details.

We are also learning to think imaginatively. Miss McKendry can't wait to hear our alternate endings to this story!

Mr Morphew talked about some of the stories we have read so far, and how in each story Jesus helped sick people get better and saved them by keeping them safe. We learnt from these stories that Jesus is caring and looks after his people.

We also read a story called "A Dark Night in the Garden". This story was about a man called Judas who told some guards where to find Jesus. Sadly, Jesus was captured and crucified.(this means putting him on the cross).  We talked about how Jesus died, but how he still lives on in all of us.

We ate Fruit Play and Lunch inside today because of the rain.

Afterwards, we went to our very first Junior School Assmebly in the AKT. We showed the rest of the school a video of our insect song that we performed on Open Day. We were so proud!

Miss McKendry and eleven other Junior School teachers have been involved in rowing over the last 4 weeks. On Sunday 29 May, they competed in a regatta and Miss McKendry's team won their final. We watched a video about what they have been up to, and the teachers all got a certificate! We were so excited for Miss McKendry!

Then we went to PE. We did different workstations today, practising our catching, kicking and rolling of the ball.  We are starting to throw the ball up in the air and catch it. This is tricky but with lots of practice, we can do it!

It didn't rain during lunch time, so we ate our food inside and went outside to have a play.

At the end of the day we had rest time and News, but the fire alarm went off in the Senior School and we had to evacuate the building. Lucky for us it wasn't raining! We saw two fire engines!!

School Photo Day!!!

Today we all came to School looking extra sharp for Photo Day. We had our shoes polished, hair tied back and our Full School Winter uniform on, including our blazer. Wow we looked AMAZING!!

Our day was a little crazy, as it was raining outside, so photos were taken in our Bigspace and in the Evandale Library.

Today Mrs Lloyd showed us what everyone had brought in for our 3D shapes.   We have to bring in lots of different items that are in primary colours - red, blue, yellow.  So far we have beads, flowers, boxes, mop.  So many things!  These will be stuck on our 3D shapes.

A small group of us got to tie material onto our yellow cone and blue sphere.
We also continued on with our painting of our art shapes.  These are nearly done and will soon be hung on the wall for you to see.

We had some year 6 students set up different gymnastic workstations.  They demonstrated what we had to do.
We did pencil rolls, balancing on the beams, legs up the wall, climbing and some strengthening exercises.  We loved being with the year 6 girls.

Reminder: It is Mufti Day tomorrow. The girls are allowed to wear their casual clothes, but they will need to bring in a Gold coin donation.

Monday Magic

Today we had another special guest, Melanie (Sophie's Mum). She is a Pharmacist and she told us a lot of interesting things about her job. She also showed us a prescription and lots of different types of medicines. Melanie showed us how to use some of them. We saw liquids, tablets, powders, creams, drops and a puffer with it's spacer. Melanie also reminded us about the importance of not taking medicines unless an adult we know gives it to us,.

Afterwards Miss McKendry explained how to use some new exciting things that we can play with on the stage. We brainstormed why doctors might need these things when the are working in a hospital.

Sophia T - this stops you from sneezing (face mask)
The face mask stops your germs from ingecting the patient and vice versa.

Sofia B - used in case floor is dirty (protective covers over shoes)

Kaitlyn - because the floor is slippery and stops you from falling over (protective covers over shoes)
The over shoes stop dirt from getting into the clean surgery room. Also they stop the doctors' shoes from getting dirty.

Eloise - listen to our heart (stethoscope)
Anneke - to listen to our breathing (stethoscope)
Welldone Eloise and Anneke, you have been listening to our guest speakers!

Thank you to Miss McKendry's mum and dad for donating these to Pre-Kindergarten. They are doctors too!

During Chapel Mr Morphew told us what a saint is. A saint isn't someone who has done better at things than others.

Mr Morphew: Everyone is a saint who trusts and accepts God.

We also looked at the gift of life and what this means. The Gift of LIfe is something precious that we should be thankful for and it is free.

At Music we practised using different voices with Mrs Clouston and had to say what voice it was - high or low. We sang Lucy Lockett together and then Charlotte and Tiffany sang it all by themselves. Wow!

After this we formed 2 groups. One group sang the words with the beat and the other group sang the words with their hands. Then we then sang the song using the sounds 'tee tee' and 'ta ta' instead of the words. We are learning that some words have one sound per beat others have two.

We sang two other songs using our hands and clapping the beat - The Sea Saw song and Teddy Bear Song.  We are getting very good at clapping to the beats and singing the words at the same time.

When we came back we talked about what we had learnt about being a Pharmacist from earlier this morning. We took turns sharing our knowledge with the class. We also drew what we learnt.

Remember it is photo day tomorrow!

Happy Friday!

What a happy Friday we have had. We have all really settled so well into Term 2.

Mrs Lloyd brought in a big ball to show us.  We had to try and guess what shape it was.

Tiffany - said a sphere!!  Well done Tiffany.

We are going to be tying material onto this big sphere and shapes made out of different materials. This sphere is going to be blue.

We had a good look at it and Kaitlin - thought it was made from plastic and glass.  Mrs Lloyd told us it was made of pine and plastic.  Good effort Kaitlin.
This blue ball will be kept in our classroom alongside our yellow cone and we will be working on these shapes every week in Art.  How exciting.

We also did some painting of our shape art and these will be displayed on our big shapes when they are finished.

Mrs McMullan put on a video about a booked called "I Got this Hat".  It was about hats made into:

- viking hats
-pirate hats
- eskimo hats
- mexican hats

This was continued from last weeks library lesson where we made our purple pirate hats that we have brought home.
Mrs McMullan said we could borrow the book called "I Got This Hat" and we can read it next week.

We continued our Doctors and Nurses Project by investigating - 'What we know' and 'wonder' about Pharmacists. We came up with some really interesting questions to ask Sophie's mum on Monday. We can't wait to learn from an expert.

Have a happy and relaxing weekend!!

Thoughtful Thursday

Today we started the day with a special visitor... Dr Samar (Faye's Mum)! She talked to us about her job as a doctor and showed us some of the tools that she uses. Dr Samar showed us some medicine that looks like lollies. So we must only eat them if an adult we know, gives them to us. Dr Samar taught us how to clean a wound and put a bandage on it.

It was really cold this morning, so we did some yoga and dancing indoors. We love taking off our shoes and enjoying the yoga story!

We ate Fruit Play inside as well due to the weather.

Afterwards, we reflected on what we had learnt from our two doctor visits and drew what we had learnt.

Then we had some time in the Big Space. We really like using the iPads and playing in the Doctor's Surgery. We also like using the natural objects in our creations. They remind us to take care of the things that live and grow in our world.
